For more than thirty years, EPA’s Environmental Merit Award program has honored those who have made outstanding contributions on behalf of the region’s public health and natural environment. On April 22nd, EPA New England recognized the work of the Narragansett Bay Estuary Program and the Buzzards Bay National Estuary Program to help launch EPA’s new coastal watershed program – the Southeast New England Coastal Watershed Restoration Program. An Environmental Merit Award was presented to Tom Borden, program director of the Narragansett Bay Estuary Program; Joe Costa, executive director of the Buzzards Bay National Estuary Program; and Heather Radcliffe, project officer for the New England Interstate Water Pollution Control Commission. EPA New England noted “their dedicated and efficient collaboration” to help launch this new program that is designed to protect and restore the coastal watersheds in southeast New England.
