Urban Estuaries

These collaboratives aim to understand urban estuarine ecosystems to provide insight for managing resources, restoring habitats, and ensure resilience to climate change

Mission: Provide cross-state collaboration and coordination to understand ecosystem change in urban coastal waters informing resource management, climate change resilience, and habitat improvement.

Current Objectives: Facilitate coordination to develop collaborations in response to the growing need for inter- and transdisciplinary research and solutions to fully understand and address human-ecosystem dynamics in urban estuarine systems.

History: The Coastal Urban Waters Research Collaborative was formed by NBEP in response to the needs identified by the Science Advisory Committee. Read NBEP’s Research Plan for a full history .
