Climate Projects in Providence Need Federal Money - Providence Journal article

What Brown University Prof. Curt Spalding and other leaders of the partnership found as they made the rounds were a lot of good ideas, but few detailed plans. Two proposals, however, stood out: the one on the Seekonk and a flood mitigation plan with similar goals along the Woonasquatucket River on the other side of the city.

Both are comprehensive in their visions, working to address problems that climate change is exacerbating in the city while also expanding public green spaces, restoring nature and beautifying neighborhoods.

And both will need a lot of money to bring to fruition.

“You have to have that forward thinking,” said Spalding, former New England regional director of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. “That’s something that we want to see here. And we need other people to follow along.”
